What is confirmed
Ontario lists the 2027 rent increase guideline at 1.9% for most covered tenancies. In most cases, at least 12 months must have passed and the landlord must provide the proper written notice at least 90 days before the increase takes effect.
Why the unit's history matters
The guideline does not apply to many units first occupied for residential purposes after November 15, 2018. Records such as occupancy documents, permits and tenancy history may matter if exemption status is disputed.
- Confirm the first residential occupancy date.
- Use the current LTB form and notice period.
- Do not assume a condominium's age proves the unit's status.
